Limestone Floor Tile Installation:
1. Clean the surface
Prepare the subfloor so that it is clean and dry, flat and even. If plywood is used as a subfloor, an underlayment or the backer board must be installed/attached to the subfloor.
2. Check the tile layout and apply a thin set.
Because limestone varies greatly, it must be blended so that all dark or light bits do not end up together. To achieve a correct color blend, merge tiles at random. Begin spreading the thin-set from the corner.
3. Set the tiles in place permanently.
Place the limestone tile on top of the mortar and firmly press down. Install the tile spacers (1/8th inch or 1/16th inch, or as directed by the manufacturer). Limestone tiles can also be set without joints (depending on the tile edges and the information provided by the provider). To produce a strong and stable bind, press forcefully with the adhesive.
4. Wipe away any excess adhesive or moisture between the tiles.
5. Allow for a 24-48-hour dry period before adding grout.
6. Combine the grout mixture and apply it deeply between joints with a grout float.
7. Using a sponge, remove any excess grout from the tiles.
Allow the grout to harden for 24-48 hours, or as directed.
9. Seal the tiles with a clear sealer according to the manufacturer's instructions.
10. Suppliers may recommend before and after installation/before and after grouting.
